Kisah dibalik Air Terjun Coban Rondo, bermula dari sepasang pengantin yang baru saja melangsungkan pernikahan.
Mempelai wanita bernama Dewi Anjarwati dari Gunung Kawi, sedangkan mempelai pria bernama Raden Baron Kusumo dari Gunung Anjasmoro.
Setelah usia pernikahan mereka menginjak usia 36 hari atau disebut dengan Selapan (bahasa jawa).
Dewi Anjarwati mengajak suaminya berkunjung ke Gunung Anjasmoro, yang merupakan asal dari suami.
Namun orang tua Anjarwati melarang kedua mempelai pergi karena usia pernikahan mereka baru berusia 36 hari atau disebut selapan.
Namun kedua mempelai tersebut bersikeras pergi dengan resiko apapun yang terjadi di perjalanan.

Ketika di tengah perjalanan keduanya dikejutkan dengan hadirnya Joko Lelono, yang tidak jelas asal-usulnya.

Sejak saat itulah Coban atau air terjun tempat bersembunyi Dewi Anjarwati dikenal dengan COBAN RONDO.
Konon batu besar di bawah air terjun merupakan tempat duduk sang putri yang merenungi nasibnya.
